Thank You for choosing Davis Photography for something as special as your senior portraits. We will do our very best to take care of you and to make sure that you have a wonderful experience, from the time you call us until you walk out the door with finished portraits in your hands. These are memories that you will treasure for the rest of your life, so don’t expect anything less than the best! Here at Davis Photography we think that quality is more important than quantity, therefore we are not a high volume studio. The no. one killer of creativity is volume in excess. We spend enough time with each senior to ensure that you won’t feel rushed, about 1 ½ - 2 hours.
On the following pages you will find some helpful hints as to what type of clothing works the best to create a very classic and timeless look, what you should or shouldn’t bring (there is really nothing you can not bring!), as well as our studio policies. Hopefully this will answer most of your questions, and if not, please do not hesitate to call us and our friendly and helpful staff will be happy to assist you at any time. PREPARING FOR YOUR SESSION…
Clothing suggestions:
Be sure to bring a variety of outfits, some dressy and some casual. Dark solid colors work best for a classy look and earth tones work best for outside. Also, long sleeves look better than short sleeves. Dark or light jeans, khakis, summer dresses, suits, white shirts for high key backgrounds and outside. And if you have a favorite outfit, don’t hesitate to bring it along even though it doesn’t "fit" within these suggestions. We want you to feel comfortable and be yourself, and at the same time create portraits that will be in style 20 years from now as well as today. We try to satisfy both the senior and the parents, because you usually have different opinions on what looks good.
If you normally wear glasses, see if you can remove the lenses or borrow a pair of blank frames from your optician. Lens flare is both time consuming and expensive to remove!
Make sure that you are comfortable with your hair before the session. Usually it is best not to do any drastic changes within 2 weeks of your session. We don’t want you to dislike your portraits because of a "bad hair day" or because you have a new hairstyle that makes you look totally different.
When it comes to bringing props, the sky is the limit! You can bring whatever your heart desires, be it sports equipment, pets, friends, cars (especially Corvettes!), etc. etc. Whatever captures you and your interests/hobbies.
Please follow these suggestions as much as possible, we have them because our style of portraits is timeless, artistic and unique - which is why you chose us!
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
In the unfortunate event that it should rain on the day of your session (which is not very unlikely here in Minnesota), come in anyway for your indoor pictures. It is much easier to reschedule just the outdoor part, than to find an open slot for a new session.
SHOULD I BRING PARENTS OR A FRIEND WITH?
If it makes you feel more comfortable having someone there with you - absolutely! On the other hand, if this will embarrass you and make you nervous, don’t. This is very individual, so it is up to you. If you are bringing someone however, and you want him or her in the camera room, please remind them to be as quiet as possible (unless all of us are chatting of course), and to give the photographer the creative freedom that he needs. After all, this is his passion and he is the artist, trust him to make you look your absolute best!
WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY SESSION?
As early as you can, and at least 7-8 weeks before your yearbook deadline. Most seniors have their portraits taken over the summer, in June or July. This is when it is the most beautiful outside, plus you can take advantage of our summer specials!
If you should need to reschedule your session, please call at least 3 days in advance for a full refund of your session fee. This gives us time to fill in that spot.

Ultimate session – 4-6 outfits
Supreme session – 3-4 outfits
Classic session – 2-3 outfits
VIEWING AND CHOOSING YOUR IMAGES
The biggest fear seniors have is "what if they don’t turn out?" After all, you don’t get to see the results until after you paid for your session. At Davis Photography we are leading in technology in this industry, which means only the best for you. Our state-of-the-art viewing system allows you to view and order your images within 48 hours of the session. That means, no hassle with paper previews or waiting 2-3 weeks for your proofs. We also offer something very cool - your own slideshow on CD - awesome for open houses!
OK, SO HOW MUCH IS IT?
What you pay for your senior portraits is very important, but what you get what you pay for is even more important… That’s value!!!
Gift portraits are available individually (A La Carte), but our senior combinations offer the best value for your money. Our session packages range from just $199, up to the "Ultimate Expression of Love" package for $1399. Most packages also choose from multiple poses for variety, so your choices are many. The average senior at our studio spends$600-1000, that gives you pretty much everything that you need (including a whole bunch of wallets) and then some. At this stage you can add on a slideshow CD and an art portfolio for next to nothing, and when you buy a portfolio with 8 or 12 images, we let you order from all of them, since we retouched them anyways. Needless to say, this has been a huge success! Imagine your friends having 12 different wallet poses to choose from, and they are all of you!
NO HIDDEN COSTS
Each pose you order from is carefully retouched to remove unwanted imperfections. We include free wallet boxes and a yearbook photo (w/package orderand dont forget that it is the students responsibility to turn in their yearbook picture to their school). All portraits (except wallets) are embossed with a linen texture and 8x10’s and larger are mounted to artist’s board for maximum protection.
FREE FAMILY SESSION
When you have your senior portraits done at our studio, we will give you a complimentary family session, a $60 value. This offer is good from one year from the day of your senior session. Please make sure to ask to see some examples of our family portraiture while you are here. It has the same unique, artistic feeling that our senior portraits are known for, maybe even more so. We do something here that we like to call "relationship portraits". They are done in black and white (we do color too), with use of very simple clothing. The main focus in the portrait are the people and the emotions. It can be a little girl peeking over her dad’s shoulder, hiding halfway behind mom, or just a close-up of mom and dad together. Either way it has a very special feeling that you don’t get with any other kind of photography. Don’t let this opportunity slip away. Before you know it the kids are all grown up and leaving for college etc. you will be glad you took the time to create beautiful memories with them.
THE DAY OF…
Make sure you arrive on time, both for your session and your ordering appointment (for your session you want to show up a couple of minutes early to bring in your outfits and look at some wallets for ideas). We do everything by appointment at our studio, so if you are late, you will be taking time off some one else’s appointment, and we are sure you would not want that to happen to you. If you are not sure exactly how to get here, leave with plenty enough time or drive by here a few days before your session.
